• Great computerized colorations of the old films.

  However, the colorization is the only positive comment I can make. The narrative was poorly put together. It was like listening to a couple dozen old men talk about their experiences. The producer did seem to care if these men sounded intelligent or senile. I had to endure the narrative to enjoy the colorized film. Not worth the rental price.

  The footage restoration is remarkable but the documentary itself is rather low effort. It consists entirely of footage (some enhanced, some not) with audio recordings of WW1 vets telling stories. There is no overarching theme, narrator, soundtrack or bits from historians to tie it together. I’m generally a huge military history fan but making it through TSNGO without falling asleep was quite an effort. I highly recommend renting before buying.

  Because of all of the rave reviews I was really looking forward to watching this film. It didn’t take long to notice that the same video clips and pictures are being shown over and over and over again from different angles. I saw the same soldier in the same video clip six times. The narrative is mostly soundbites of soldiers that they attempted to pair up with what was portrayed in the pictures and video clips. It looks like Mr. Jackson did not have much media to work because like I said, the same clips and pictures are used OVER and OVER and OVER again.The worst part of this film is that almost all the videos and pictures are one of two things. Dead mangled soldiers or live soldiers acting goofy as hell because they are being filmed for which I’m sure for most of them was the first time.
